Nehemiah Kimathi

Associate Consultant

 

Dr. Kimathi is a trained pædiatrician who began his career practicing at Kenyan hospitals, and subsequently moved to administrative roles in that country's health ministry. As provincial medical officer, he was responsible for coordination of all health services, preparation of annual budgets, inspections and recommendations for licensing of private health institutions, initiating continuing education and establishing a health information system. As director of the provincial family health division, Dr. Kimathi managed programs in child health and family planning, expansion of immunization, control of diarrhoea, nutrition and control of respiratory infections.

Since leaving the civil service Nehemiah has conducted consultancies for many international organizations including the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Belgian Survival Fund (BSF), Netherlands Government, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Belgian Administration for Development Cooperation, GTZ, WHO and others.

Nehemiah's consulting experience includes reviewing and evaluating the health status of target populations; preparing projects with PHC, reproductive health and water, sanitation and nutrition components; preparing implementation plans for reproductive health strategies; feasibility of community-based distribution of family planning and many others.
